OBITUARY
Prof. Hafizu Miko Yakasai
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI) announces the passing of our immediate past National President, Professor Hafizu Miko Yakasai.
Professor Yakasai was more than a leader – he was a teacher, a mentor, and a beacon of inspiration to the entire NITI family and the wider translation and interpreting community. His wisdom, humility, and dedication touched countless lives, and his legacy will remain with us forever.
This is a great loss not only to his family and friends but to all of us who were privileged to work with him.
We pray that Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and comfort his loved ones at this difficult time.

Big Welcome to the website of the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI), the professional body for accreditation, certification, regulation and protection of language professionals in Nigeria.
A number of people have asked if NITI trains translators and interpreters. That is why it is pertinent to clarify here that NITI is not a training school, but a professional association, the accreditation body, the regulator and protector of the translation and interpretation profession in Nigeria. NITI might establish a school of translation and interpretation in the future, but presently, it is a body of qualified professional linguists (Professors, Doctors, Masters, Bachelors, etc), as well as future professional linguists (language students) who were trained or are being trained in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world. NITI is to Nigerian Translators and Interpreters as NBA is to Nigerian Lawyers, NMA is to Nigerian Doctors, ICAN is to Nigerian Accountants, etc. NITI professionals work in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hausa, Igbo, Italian, Latin proper, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Yoruba and other Nigerian and foreign languages.
